The Kargil Braveheart Football Tournament 2025 commenced today with a spirited opening ceremony at the Chandel Christian Football Stadium, drawing an enthusiastic crowd of community leaders, youth clubs and football enthusiasts.
Organised under Operation Sadbhavana by Assam Rifles in collaboration with the District Sports Association Chandel and supported by the Ex-Servicemen Association of Chandel, the tournament will run till December 8.
Sixteen teams from across the district are vying for top honours in what is one of Chandel’s largest football events this year.
Conceived as a tribute to the courage and sacrifice of Kargil War heroes, the tournament seeks to kindle patriotic pride while promoting peace, unity and youth engagement through sport, said PRO IGAR (S) in a press release.
The opening day witnessed a vibrant display of community spirit, with the stadium echoing with cheers and the energy of young athletes, it said.

By channeling the region’s athletic potential into constructive pursuits, the Kargil Braveheart Football Tournament not only honours the legacy of India’s fallen heroes but also strengthens the fabric of communal harmony and youth development in the region, it added.
The opening day of the tournament saw Hnahringkhu YC outlast Modi CSC by a slender 1-0 margin. The lone goal that earned Hnahringkhu YC the quarterfinal berth was scored by Sr Kagaly in the 49th minute.
Later in the second pre-quarterfinal match of the tournament, Ng Rolish scored in the 30th minute to earn Monsang PYCC a narrow 1-0 win over Ziontlang SYC.
