IMPHAL, Dec 20 : Joint representatives of the IDPs have urged Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla and Chief Secretary Puneet Kumar Goel to issue necessary directives for the immediate, transparent, and time-bound resettlement of the IDPs.
The IDPs, in a reminder memorandum submitted to the Governor and the Chief Secretary, stated that a large number of displaced families have been languishing in relief camps for over 30 months, without any clear or notified time-bound resettlement plan from the Govt.
The memorandum was endorsed by COCOMI.
Saying that thousands of IDPs have been living in relief camps with minimal basic amenities and the uncertainty surrounding their resettlement has worsened the distress among vulnerable groups, including women, children, and the elderly, they appealed to the Government to set a definite timeline for the resettlement of all IDPs.
Many IDPs are suffering from psychological trauma and loss of livelihood, while the disruption of education continues unabated, they said, seeking clarity from the Government regarding their resettlement plan.
They sought clarity from the Government on a definite timeline for the resettlement of the remaining IDPs, district-wise status of resettlement,  measures to ensure security and livelihood support post-resettlement, and an accountability mechanism for the delays, despite repeated assurances regarding the resettlement of IDPs.
"Given the prolonged  displacement and the winter hardship, any further delay will only deepen humanitarian suffering and erode public confidence in the administrative process," the IDPs said.
The Government assured to resettle IDPs by December 2025.
