UAL to file PIL with SC
IMPHAL, Dec 21 : The Uripok Apunba Lup (UAL) has announced that it will file a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) before the Supreme Court in collaboration with like-minded groups if the internally displaced people (IDPs) are not resettled to their native places by the end of this month (December).
As part of their ongoing protest, IDPs staged a sit-in at Lamboikhongnangkhong today, demanding their resettlement.
UAL and various clubs from the Uripok area also participated in the protest to express their solidarity.
Speaking to the media on the sidelines, UAL vice president Khwairakpam Tarun Kumar stated that the IDPs at Lamboikhongnangkhong have been protesting for the past three weeks, demanding their resettlement.
Pointing out that the Government had previously assured the IDPs that they would be resettled this month, he added that UAL will file a PIL before the Supreme Court if the Government fails to act on its promise.
He emphasised that the IDPs have the right to return to their homes.
