Banita Devi Naorem takes over reign of IRSA

IMPHAL, Dec 22 : In a significant milestone and a moment of pride for Manipur, Banita Devi Naorem, IRS, has been elected as the president of the Indian Revenue Service Association (IRSA).
An IRS officer of the 1998 batch, she is presently serving as the Principal Commissioner of Income Tax, Income Tax Department, Government of India, and is posted in Kolkata. She hails from Kakching district. Besides her career in the Govt, Banita Naorem is an active social worker and motivational speaker. She has double MPhil degrees, one each from JNU, New Delhi and Madras University, Chennai, after her BSc and MSc degrees in Physics from Jamia Millia Islamia University. She is the first from Kakching to qualify in the Civil Services conducted by the UPSC.
Since May 2023, she has been actively involved with IDPs and also served as advisor in a family charitable trust which has established a pre-primary school named Kakching Valley School in her hometown.
With regard to her career and work experience, she was selected for the 59th National Defence Course at the National Defence College (NDC), New Delhi (2019) which is the highest training centre for defence officers. Moreover, she underwent OECD training program on Transfer Pricing and International Taxation in Seoul, South Korea (April, 2017) and mid-career training program in International Taxation and Transfer Pricing at Management Development Institute (MDI), Gurgaon and Duke University, USA (2012).
Banita also worked as a departmental legal representative at Income Tax Tribunal in Mumbai and Delhi.
IRSA is the all-India representative body for officers of the Indian Revenue Service. Its primary role is to safeguard the common interests and collective welfare of its members and to engage in institutional dialogue with Government bodies.
