Rare case of rectum cancer successfully operated at Karkinos

IMPHAL, Dec 22 : Karkinos Healthcare Manipur has achieved a rare feat by conducting a successful operation of a rare and complicated case of Rectum cancer with Metastatic to Liver.
As per a release issued by Karkinos, a 56 years old male patient from Imphal West was diagnosed as CA-Cancer of Rectum with Metastatic to Liver at Karkinos Healthcare, JNIMS Campus, Porompat.
The patient was planned for segment 8 liver resection through glissonian approach but on opening and pringles maneuver of the anterior sector, it was found to involve both segment 8 and 4.
The earlier operation plan had to be changed and WLE (Wide Local Excision) and partial resection of segment 8 and and 4 were performed on December 17.
The operation lasted for about 4 hours and the patient was successfully discharged on December 21 with stable condition. According to Karkinos, the operation, first of its kind in Manipur, was successfully performed by Dr Sapam Opendro, Surgical Oncologist with the assistance of Dr Jina Konsam, Consultant Surgical Anaesthetist.
