Vijay Merchant Trophy Manipur 10/1 at stumps at Day 1, trail Jharkhand by 291 runs

IMPHAL, Dec 23 : Manipur were 10/1 (in 16 overs) at stumps at Day 1 after bowling out Jharkhand for 301 runs in the first innings of their fourth tie of the Vijay Merchant Trophy at DRIEMS Ground, Cuttack.
Jharkhand who won the toss and opted to bat first did not have best of the start and slipped to 99/5 within 27.3 overs as Sagolshem Bush picked two wickets (2/41 in 10 overs), and Rojer (1/19 in 8 overs), Chingamba (1/55 in 11 overs) and Swabhiman shared a wicket apiece to inflict early damage.
From 99/5, Rudra Mishra and Shivam Kumar Mavi however breathed fresh breath into the innings by gathering 116 runs off 118 deliveries for the 6th wicket to take the team past 200-run mark before Romesh broke the partnership by getting rid of Shivam Kumar Mavi on 64 (off 65 balls; 11 fours).
Ngambarel then piled further pressure on Jharkhand by dismissing Rudra Mishra on 84 off 104 balls and incoming Prabjot Singh on 3 before Swabhiman had his way to collect the wickets of the last two batters including Jay Rajak on 43 off 69 balls and returned with the best haul of 3/75 in 21 overs. Ngambarel meanwhile returned with 2/23 in his spell of 9 overs including 3 maidens.
After the innings break, Manipur lost Borish on a 20-ball duck to Deepak Raj before closing out the day at 10/1 with Tyrus 2 and Chingamba 8 on the crease.
