Sita's Fire and My Land's Burden
Chongtham Ronikumar
Why did Sita's fate
Fall into the fire's core
When she passed
The flames of Agni - puja?
I have done true things
For my homeland and my people ,
Yet I feel myself shrinking,
Like a timid little cat,
Before the judgment of the public.
I keep the secrets safe -
The confidential words
Of Manipur 's Police Department -
For truth must be guarded
By one more honest
Than Yudhishthira himself ,
One who carries heavy sorrows
Without a single slap
From the real Krishna.
Shiva and Krishna were born
From the soil of India ,
Not distant lands
Like the United Kingdom.
Let us heal ,
Let us quiet the dark insurgents
That widen the gap
Between hill and valley ,
Between hearts of Kangleipak.
For if this pain grows old ,
If it burns too long ,
It might become a spark -
A dangerous pioneer
Of a Third world war in aggregate ,
Able to destroy life
As the dinosaurs once were lost.
