IMPHAL, Dec 2: Boosting air connectivity and potentially bringing down airfare, Air India Express has--as promised--introduced daily evening flight on the Imphal-Guwahati-Delhi route from December 1.
The Air India Express is a Tata enterprise and a subsidiary of Air India.
This remarkable initiative of the airline came following its decision in November first week to introduce additional flights on the Imphal-Guwahati sector.
Earlier, reports exposing reduced number of flights and exorbitant airfare along the Imphal-Guwahati had made headlines of The Sangai Express for days, stirring public debates and courting the attention of the Government.
While other airlines didn't respond, the Air India Express had then announced that it would introduce two additional flights from Imphal and cap the airfare for the Imphal-Guwahati sector at Rs 6,000.
Even as the Air India Express has introduced the additional daily evening flight, it is not yet clear whether or not the price cap it announced has been implemented.
Nonetheless, the airfare of flights from Imphal to Guwahati appear to have dropped significantly from earlier after the introduction of  the additional Air India Express flight.
And, interestingly, the price of tickets for the Air India Express evening flight remains well below Rs 6,000 on all days of the month (December).
Notably, the best airfare for flights from Imphal to Guwahati in early November was around Rs 13,000.
On an average, the best airfare for the same route from December 3 onward and into January 2026 have been projected to be around Rs 6,000.
The cheapest and best fare for Imphal-Guwahati on December 5 is Rs 4,999--the evening flight of Air India Express. This was checked at around 6.50 pm of December 2.
Meanwhile, the Imphal International Airport has appreciated the Air India Express for introducing the additional daily evening flight on the Imphal-Guwahati-Delhi route.
On Facebook, the official handle of the airport, Imphal Airport posted, "Great start to the month at Imphal Airport!
This Monday-the first day of December 2025-marked the re-introduction of the daily additional evening flight on the Imphal-Guwahati-Delhi route. A heartfelt thank-you to Air India Express for boosting regional connectivity and enhancing passenger convenience."
It may be mentioned that the airport was established in the mid-1960s, and it was officially designated as an international aerodrome on October 30, 2013.
The first international flight from Mandalay, operated by Golden Myanmar Airlines, touched down at the airport on November 21, 2013.
The airport is equipped to accommodate aircraft such as the Airbus A320 family and the Boeing 737 series. The runway spans 2,746 meters.
