NE Zone Inter University Weightlifting C’ships Dikash, Bikash grab bronze to end MU men’s medal jinx at zonal event

IMPHAL, Dec 29 : Manipur University ended the men’s medal jinx in the North East Inter University Weightlifting Championships with Yumnam Dikash and Huidrom Bikash securing a bronze medal apiece.
In the championships being hosted by Punjab University in Chandigarh, Yumnam Dikash of Thambal Marik College won the bronze medal in the men’s 65 kg category competition. Dikash recorded 114 kg in snatch and 135 in clean and jerk to amass 149 kg and seal the third place title.
Huidrom Bikash of Biramangol College, meanwhile, bagged a bronze medal in the men’s 110 kg category competition as he scripted a combined effort of 275 kg, 120 in snatch and 155 in clean and jerk.
Notably, Ngasepam Ballerina of Thambal Marik College had also won a silver medal in the women’s 63 kg category competition. Ballerina meanwhile recorded a combined effort of 182 kg, 82 in snatch and 100 in clean and jerk, to settle for the second place.
The MU weightlifting team led by Coach Thounaojam Niranjoy of Youth Affairs and Sports Department and managed by Dr Sarangthem Thoithoi, Assistant Professor, Biramangol College, Sawombung.
The championships that began on December 26 will run till December 30.
