IMPHAL, Dec 29 : Strongly condemning the brutal murder of 24-year-old Anjel Chakma from Tripura, the Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF) has appealed the Central Government to implement special measures to safeguard students and individuals from North East India who study or live in other parts of the country.
MSF has also urged the Prime Minister, Home Minister, Uttarakhand Chief Minister, and other Government authorities to intervene in this issue, arrest the perpetrators, and take strict legal action against them. Notably, the young MBA student was assaulted in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, on December 9, 2025, and died on December 26, 2025, said a press release issued by MSF.
According to reports, Chakma was attacked by a group of assailants who used racial slurs and stabbed him multiple times, leading to his tragic demise.
The victim's brother has alleged that the attackers were intoxicated and targeted them due to their appearance.
"This heinous act of racial violence is shameful and has been condemned by the Manipuri student community", maintained MSF.
Highlighting the racial discrimination, stereotyping, and social exclusion faced by people of the North East, MSF remarked that derogatory terms like "chinky," "momo," "chowmein," and "Chinese" are frequently used to mock them. Such discrimination can escalate to physical assault and hate crimes, and it is unacceptable that such a practise has persisted for far too long, said the press release. Adding that racism against North East people should be condemned by all, MSF said it is the Government's responsibility to ensure the safety and well-being of the future pillars of the Nation.
