COCOMI lines up march to Raj Bhavan

IMPHAL, Dec 30: Taking strong exception to the stoic silence of the Government to the memoranda submitted by IDPs, the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has scheduled a mass protest rally up to the Raj Bhavan (now Lok Bhavan) on January 12, 2026 to demand a reply from the Governor himself.
Since the beginning of December 2025, IDPs have been staging a relay sit-in-protest and submitting reminder memoranda every day to the Governor and the Chief Secretary reminding the Government of its assurance to resettle IDPs by the end of December 2025.
The relay sit-in-protest staged at Lamboi-khong-nangkhong since December 1 wrapped up today.
As the relay sit-in-protest was wrapped up, COCOMI convenor Khuraijam Athou-ba announced the next course of action.
Athouba recalled that the Government gave a concrete assurance to CSOs on July 3, 2025 that the IDPs will be resettled by December, 2025.
The relay sit-in-protest was staged as a reminder to the Government of its own assurance. Through the course of the relay sit-in-protest, memoranda were submitted to the Governor and the Chief Secretary everyday.
But the Government has not bothered to give a single reply to the many queries raised through the memoranda such as progress report and status report of the resettlement process, he decried.
IDPs, COCOMI and other CSOs will march to the Lok Bhavan on January 12 to take a reply from the Governor.
Saying that the march scheduled on January 12 is a democratic agitation, Athouba appealed to all the people to support the march.
For two years and seven months, the IDPs are being denied all the rights of being Indian citizens, he said. Asking how long IDPs should suffer and live under wretched conditions in relief camps, the COCOMI convenor denounced the Government’s silence on the same question. It is a matter of grave concern that the Government of India has turned deaf and blind to the appeals and complaints of IDPs, he said.
It is a big question whether the incumbent PR administration is for the people or not, he added.
