Khurai body seeks help
IMPHAL, Dec 4 : In view of the ongoing exams for students from Class I to the college level, Co-Ordinating Body Khurai has sought the help of student organisations, local clubs and Government authorities to prohibit tambola/housie/bingo.
In a press release, the Body alleged groups of people of frequently organising housie in various localities under the guise of conducting fund drives.
It questioned how the Government has restricted gambling activities like "Lagao", going even to the extent of initiating legal action, but allowed bingos, which is also a form of gambling, to be organised freely.
Considering the promotion examinations (Class I to IX), pre-board exam (Class X) and pre-council exam (Class XI, XII) as well as upcoming HSLC and HS examinations in February 2026, hosting housie using microphones and loudspeakers is unreasonable and a nuisance to all, it added.
Under such circumstances, the Co-Ordinating Body Khurai has also urged the respective Deputy Commissioners and SPs of various districts and concerned police stations to impose a ban on organising housie.
