IMPHAL, Dec 4: As a part of developing Imphal as a Smart City, a road blocker bollard system is being installed on the Mall Road which runs between the two Ima Keithels of Thangal Keithel.
This is the first time the road blocker bollard system is being installed in Manipur.
After the Mall Road was constructed with paver blocks under the Smart City Mission, an iron bar which could be lowered and raised was used to restrict movement of vehicles.
However, the iron bar was not effective enough to restrict movement of vehicles. Now a road blocker bollard system is being installed at six points to restrict entry of vehicles into the congested road.
Bollard system is powered by a hydraulic mechanism. The road barriers will be lowered by hydraulic mechanism at times of emergency so that vehicles can enter the road.
It is said that the road blocker road system can effectively check entry and movement of vehicles on Mall Road.
Meanwhile, construction of a mechanized rotary parking lot is being developed speedily at Nagamapal under the Smart City Mission.
The mechanized rotary parking lot will have three units for four-wheelers and one unit for two-wheelers.
Each four-wheeler unit will have space to accommodate 14 vehicles while the two-wheeler unit will be enough to accommodate 72 vehicles.
In the absence of proper and sufficient parking lots, vehicles are being parked on the sides of many key roads of Imphal city. The mechanized rotary parking lot is expected to address this problem to some extent.
Construction of the mechanized parking lot is done mostly at night.
One parking lot for four-wheelers and two for two-wheelers have been already developed on the ground floors of the three Ima Keithels but these parking lots have not been put to use till date.
