IMPHAL, Dec 5: Reminding the Government of its own December deadline for complete resettlement of IDPs, as assured in earlier meetings with IDP representatives, the IDPs have urged the State Government to expedite district-wise resettle- ment actions, ensure security arrangements in vulnerable villages and issue a timeline-based progress report so that the commitments made to the people of Manipur are honoured within the month of December.
“We take note of the recent initiation of resettle- ment activities in Sadu Koireng and Waroiching areas of Bishnupur district. This limited progress is appreciated as a first visible step”, said a memorandum/reminder submitted by IDPs and endorsed by COCOMI to the Governor.
However, thousands of families remain displaced and continue their relay sit-in-protest, reaffirming that the democratic agitation will continue until comprehensive and verifiable resettlement across all affected areas is carried out, it said. Saying that with each passing day, the deadline draws nearer, and the expectations of the affected families intensify, the IDPs reiterated that tangible movement on the ground, not mere administrative announcements, is essential to restore confidence and ensure that displaced citizens can return to their homes with safety, dignity and basic infrastructure restored.
“We are left with only 27 days to have the assurance (of resettlement) fulfilled now”, it added.
