Forgive Me, Sweet Home

I left you long ago—
not by choice,
to save my life,
to save the family I carry within.

I left you—
bare and open,
under the heavy shadow
of forced displacement’s hand.

Forgive me—
I could not save you;
to stay was to drown us both
in the same relentless tide.

I hear your mourning—
You are no more—
only earth now,
but your soul lingers—
where we once were,
in pain and joy,
side by side.

Forgive me again—
for I could not stay.

Now, a new beginning—
a fragile hope,
a gift from distant hands.

You and I—
we know this is not enough—
not enough to rebuild shattered dreams,
not enough to heal deep scars.

But with patience,
and prayer,
we will try.

We will carve a refuge—
a home tender and true,
a place to hold our stories,
to cradle our lives,
safe beneath the long shadow of destruction.

Homecoming—
not just a place,
but a silent fight
to belong,
to persevere,
to live.
