IMPHAL, Dec 6: With a view to create a drug free environment at educational institutes, the Manipuri Students’ Federation (MSF) has called for introduction of ‘Drug Free Affidavit’ at schools from the 2026 academic session.
Speaking to media persons at their Kwakeithel Thounaojam Leikai office today, MSF Drugs Affairs Secretary Salam Fernandes Meitei said that the MSF launched ‘Eikhoi Mayai Kaba Drug Thadoklashi’ campaign on October 13, 2020.
He said that a drug free affidavit should be included at the time of admission in all schools from the next academic year (2026).
The affidavit should be jointly signed by students, parents, teachers and Principals of schools.
Salam Fernandes said that the drug free affidavit is not meant to punish or intimidate students but it is meant to create awareness and build a spirit of oneness.
He said that the drug free affidavit should be introduced from Class VIII to Class XII at all Government and private schools.
Seeking support of the Government to this initiative, Fernandes appealed to the State Government to make an announcement for introduction of drug free affidavit from the 2026 academic session.
He said that the MSF would submit memorandums to the Governor, Education(S) and other relevant authorities on the call for introduction of drug free affidavit.
In Kerala, teachers and guardians took a collective pledge at a Budha Purnima programme to make higher education drug free, he said.
He added that a large number of youth have been facing a serious issue of drug abuse in Manipur.
