Loopholes picked in MPSC notification

IMPHAL, Dec 7 : The recent notification by the Manipur Public Service Commission (MPSC) to recruit 419 Assistant Professors has sparked criticism as the State Cabinet had previously passed a resolution to recruit 436 Assistant Professors.
Additionally, the omission of posts for Home Science and Psychology subjects in the recruitment notification has caused frustration among PhD holders, master's degree graduates, and NEET JRF-qualified research scholars in these subjects, who feel overlooked by the exclusion.
Notably, the State Government (now suspended) had passed a resolution on September 9, 2023, to recruit 436 Assistant Profe- ssors through the MPSC to fill 436 vacant positions across various colleges.
However, the MPSC issued a notification on December 5 for only 419 posts, reducing the number by 17.
The notification invited applications for seven posts in Anthropology, three in Biochemistry, 19 in Botany, 22 in Chemistry, four in Computer Science, 29 in Economics, 28 in Education, 49 in English, 34 in Geography, four in Geology, two in Hindi, 35 in History, 46 in Manipuri, 36 in Mathematics, two in Mizo, four in Philosophy, four in Physical Education, 25 in Physics, 44 in Political Science, one in Sociology, one in Statistics, and 17 in Zoology.
As the notification omitted Home Science and Psychology, many individuals who were preparing for recruitment in these subjects have been left disappointed, feeling overlooked despite their qualifications.
Courses in Home Science are offered at several colleges, including Ideal Girls' College at Akampat, Thambal Marik College at Oinam, Liberal College at Luwangsangbam, SK Women's College at Nambol, Kha-Manipur College at Kakching, Standard College at Kongba, Lilong Haoreibi College, Biramangol College at Sawombung, and GP Women's College.
Moreover, many individuals have completed PhD and Master's degrees in the subject and are qualified for posts in Home Science.
Students who have completed Master's degrees, postgraduate studies, and even PhDs in Home Science said that they are just as qualified as those in any other subject but the omission of the subject in the recruitment process has left them feeling marginalized.
They also emphasized that Home Science makes valuable contributions to society, particularly in areas such as family welfare, nutrition, education, and community development.
Stating that Home Science also plays a significant role in promoting self-employment, they added that the exclusion of the subject from the recruitment process undermines its importance.
They appealed to the Government to revise the notification and include Home Science in the recruitment process, stating that such an inclusion would help realize the objectives of the National Education Policy 2020 and the People's Education Policy 2025.
