Damjol YC win Kargil Bravehearts Memorial Football Tournament

IMPHAL, Dec 8 : Damjol YC lifted the title trophy of the Kargil Bravehearts Memorial Football Tournament organised by the 21 Bn Assam Rifles in association with the District Sports Association, Chandel at Sports Complex Chandel under Operation Sadbhavana.
In the final match of the 16-team tournament,  Damjol YC fought back from a goal down in the first half to beat Hnahringkhu YC by 3-1 goals and earned the top honour.
Shingval (45+1’) ended the goal drought during the added time in the first half to put Hnahringkhu YC ahead but Damjol YC returned to the game with Rengtinson scoring the equaliser in the 62nd minute before his compatriot Lenin overturned the lead in the 80th minute.
There was no looking back for them since then and Bungpem further solidified their lead by scoring one more goal one minute into the stoppage time.
With the win, Damjol YC walked away Rs 50,000 richer and the trophy as the runners up Hnahringkhu YC contented with a cash prize of Rs 30,000 and a trophy.
The closing ceremony cum prize distribution function was attended by Deputy Inspector General of Sector Assam Rifles along with civil society leaders and ex-servicemen of Chandel who commended the AR’s efforts in promoting unity, leadership and youth development, said a press release issued by PRO IGAR (S).
The AR also facilitated a cricket tournament in collaboration with Tamil Sangam as a part of the Pongal festival celebrations, it said.
The matches of the tournament organised with the aim of fostering community bonding and youth engagement were held at Sunrise Ground, it said.
The event witnessed spirited participation from local cricket teams and sports enthusiasts, it said.
The Assam Rifles also kicked off the Major Bhupendra Mehra Football Championship in the same line at Chakpikarong Football Ground in the presence of Colonel Yuvraj Chougale, Commandant of 43 Assam Rifles as chief guest.
The 8-day tournament features 16 teams who will vie for a cash prize of Rs 90,000 for the winners and Rs 50,000 for the runners up.
