IMPHAL, Feb 1 : The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has expressed strong dis-approval of the Union Budget presented in the Lok Sabha today, labeling it as anti-people and pursuit of "tax terrorism."
Speaking to the media at Congress Bhavan today, MPCC president K Meghachandra said that the Budget presented by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman neglects the poor and farmers.
It is "anti-poor" and "pro-corporate", he said, criticising the Budget .
He also said that the Union Budget didn't allocate any funds to rebuild the houses of displaced people in Manipur whose places of residence have either been torched or flattened.
Continuing that the Budget doesn't mention anything to raise Minimum Support Price (MSP) and address unemployment , the Congress MLA added that the budget allocations for several key departments for the fiscal year 2025-2026 have been reduced.
Budget allocations for Education (20.60 per cent in 2024-25 to just 2.53 per cent in 2025-26), Transport (11.28 per cent to 10.83 per cent), Rural Development (5.51 per cent to 5.26 per cent) and IT & Telecom (2.41 per cent to 1.88 per cent) have decreased significantly, he said.
The Congress MLA called the Union Budget a tax terrorism by the BJP Government.
Further stating that the Budget reflects the interest of the Centre in Bihar's upcoming elections, he said while labelling the Budget as Bihar election budget.
