ASUFII FA crowned champions of 15th Shaheed Manoranjan Singh Memorial Football Tournament

IMPHAL, Feb 17 : ASUFII FA, Mao beat SJC, Salam 4-2 on penalties after a 1-1 regulation time draw to seal the title of the 15th Shaheed Manoranjan Singh Memorial Football Tournament this afternoon at SAI Football Turf, Takyel.
The 16-team knock out tournament is jointly organised by the 69 Bn CRPF and Imphal West District Football Association under the aegis of Manipur and Nagaland Sector CRPF and the All Manipur Football Association.
With the title in sight, the two sides started cautiously and despite sharing similar possession and scoring chances, the two sides entered into the break goalless.
ASUFII FA however found the breakthrough through P Sorormi Thingsang at the stroke of the hour-mark only to be cancelled out by Md Sohail after 71 minutes for SJC.
As the two sides were locked at 1-1 till the regulation time, the game was decided by penalty shoot-out where ASUFII emerged 4-2 winners to seal the game 5-3.
Korouhanba Laishram, P Sorormi, Mathanmi Ningshen and Waikhom Arunkumar were on target for ASUFII in the shoot-out as only Tensubam Donaldo and Leishangthem Ronit scored it for SJC.
Eventually, ASUFII FA lifted the title trophy and walked away Rs 3,00,000 richer and SJC had to content with a cash prize of Rs 2,00,000 and a trophy.
Besides these, P Sorormi, Gaichuwo S Tara and L Suraj of ASUFII were adjudged highest goal scorer, best goalkeeper and best player of the tournament and received a cash prize of Rs 10,000 apiece as Md Sohail of SJC Salam was declared man of the match and feted with a cash prize of Rs 1,000.
