Meth seized near border

In a joint effort, personnel of Zokhawthar police station in Champhai district, alongside Assam Rifles personnel, confiscated 7.100 kg of methamphetamine tablets and 3.100 kg of crystal meth. The seizure took place at Vaikai along the Tiau river, which marks the Mizoram-Myanmar border near Zokhawthar village on Tuesday, as reported by the police on Wednesday.
According to Police, the seized substances, valued at approximately Rs 71.15 crore and smuggled from Myanmar's Chin State, were recovered from Aizawl resident Vanlalhruaia, aged 59.
The confiscated drugs and the accused were transferred to Zokhawthar Police station.
Authorities registered a criminal case against the suspect under the Narcotic Drugs & Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985. Following his presentation before a district Court in Champhai, he was placed in police custody for 72 hours to enable detailed questioning.
In a separate incident, police and Assam Rifles personnel seized roughly 50 grams of heroin at Zokhawthar village, though the smuggler escaped to Myanmar. The recovered heroin was subsequently handed over to Zokhawthar police station.
