This campaign resulted in the displacement of over 700,000 Rohingyas into neighbouring Bangladesh and India.
Current developments could similarly lead to a spillover effect, as approximately 70,000 Rohingyas remaining in Rakhine await clarity regarding the Arakan Army’s intentions towards them.
Myanmar is a pivotal element of India’s Act East policy, serving as a crucial conduit for enhancing connectivity with Southeast Asian nations. In this context, India is actively involved in the Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit and Transport Project (KMTTP), which aims to establish a gateway to countries beyond Myanmar while simultaneously delivering multifaceted benefits to the Northeastern states of India.
