IMPHAL, Feb 2 : Porei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur (PLMPAM) observed the 21st death anniversary of  Ima Kombi at Lamphel Sana Keithel yesterday.
The death anniversary of the noted meira paibi leader was graced by PLMPAM president Soraisam Memcha and Meira Paibi Welfare Association, Kangleipak (MEPWAK) president Rengsongak Koireng as presidium members.
Offering floral tributes to the photo of Ima Kombi and observing silence for two minutes in her honour were the highlights of the observance.
Ima Kombi was the founding president of PLMPAM.
At the function, PLMPAM general secretary Thongam Apabi said that Ima Kombi fought against the draconian law AFSPA 1958, and the security excesses committed under the Act.
Ima Kombi's struggle, however, was not just about repealing AFSPA but also about demanding accountability, justice, and protection of human rights, she said and added that they will carry forward the legacy of Ima Kombi.
Claiming that the Indian Government has been launching a proxy war in Manipur by letting the Kukis attack the Meeteis, Apabi maintained that Kukis are being used by the Central Government.
She said that they will resist the alleged effort being put in by the Centre to balkanise Manipur.
She also claimed that Meeteis have only been responding to attacks from the Kukis who initiated the cycle of violence with the help of Central security forces.
Why would the people of Manipur protest against the Centre if the latter treat Manipuri people at par with people of other States, she reasoned and asked what wrong have Manipuri people done to India.
Expressing her discontent, she said that the State Government has been working at the mercy of the Centre despite all the challenges which Manipur has been enduring.
