IMPHAL, Feb 2 : The Koireng-led UNLF and KYKL have mourned the demise of MPA Captain Chirom Chiromcha alias Robindro and MYL cadre Moirangthem Sushil alias Athouba, and offered deepest respect to the two martyrs.
According to a joint statement issued by the Central Committee of Koireng-led UNLF and KYKL Central Committee, Chiromcha alias Robindro and Sushil alias Athouba made the supreme sacrifice in a battle fought against a combined force of India military and KNA-B at around 1.30 pm on January 30, 2025.
A series of battles were fought at Kamjong-Myanmar border since January 27 between a combined force of India military forces and KNA-B and a united front of the revolutionary organisations of Manipur.
As a part of these battles, a team of the united front led by Captain Chiromcha was on an area domination mission between BP-82 and BP-83. A fierce battle unfolded as the team approached Wokshu village located on Myanmar side as they came under heavy attack from the enemies who laid an ambush.
The fierce battle lasted for over 30 minutes and the joint team of revolutionary organisations even used rockets and lethode bombs in counter-attack, killing more than eight enemy fighters.
The team also lost Captain Chiromcha and Private Athouba.
Captain Chiromcha was the third son born to Chirom Gunindro and Chirom (O) Memcha of Mayang Imphal Thana Awang Leikai on Dec 29, 1981.
Chiromcha completed Class X and Class XII from N Tomchou Higher Secondary School and he joined AMSU soon after completing Class X.
He did his Graduate course at Manipur College. He also took active part in local club and Meira Paibi activities.
Driven by an inherent spirit of nationalism, Chiromcha started working as a local volunteer of UNLF while still a student, the joint statement said.
Unable to tolerate the arbitrary killings and sexual violence allegedly committed by Indian military forces under the impunity guaranteed by AFSPA, Chiromcha became an MPA fighter on July 30, 2003 before completing the Graduation course.
After working at the party Chairman’s office, Sylhet Attache, Bangladesh, Chiromcha was posted at Lamtai Khunou Special Area (LAKSA) from the fag end of 2010. He was then posted at CHQ-GS as a Staff Sergeant in 2012-13.
He became a Staff Officer in April 2014, it said.
Apart from boldly facing several risky situations which unfolded in the CHQ area, Chiromcha took key responsibility of safekeeping the party’s weapons.
Chiromcha also took the additional charge of Commander, Moreh Special Zone when he was serving as the Staff Office of GS Office, it said.
He worked relentlessly to instill a strong sense of Nationalism among the youth apart from working tirelessly to uplift the economy, educational standard and healthcare facilities of Moreh denizens.
When the party was marred by an internal crisis in 2020, Captain Chiromcha upheld the party’s principles and made it clear that it was far better to die than surrender to the enemy.
Acknowledging his unwavering revolutionary character, political knowledge and capability, the party’s Central Committee inducted Chiromcha as a ‘Central Cadre’ in 2021 and he was promoted to the rank of Captain.
He was exceptionally skilful in revolutionary activities including organisational works and he firmly believed in the unity of revolutionary organisations, it said.
Moreover Captain Chiromcha took key roles towards improving the party’s financial position. His demise is a big loss for the party, it said.
Private Athouba (21), born to Moirangthem Kiran and Moirangthem (O) Memcha of Sugnu Awang Leikai joined KYKL in February 2024.
After completing basic military training, he was inducted as a cadre of KYKL’s Meeyamgi Yawol Laanmee.
Athouba was a good mannered, persevering, disciplined and courageous revolutionary fighter.
Within a short time, he accomplished several tasks of the revolutionary movement.
The demise of such a young, promising and exemplary revolutionary fighter is a big loss for KYKL which would be hard to fill up, it said.
The demise of Captain Chiromcha and Private Athouba is a big loss not only for the two outfits but also for the entire revolutionary movement, read the joint statement.
Offering highest revolutionary salute to the two martyrs, the Koireng-led UNLF/MP and KYKL/MYL expressed solidarity with the bereaved families.
They also prayed that the departed souls of the two martyrs may rest in peace on the lap of the motherland.
