IMPHAL, Feb 25 : Shannaroishingee Numit/ Players' Day was widely observed across the State commemorating Manipur's overall team championship winning feat in the 5th National Games held in Imphal in 1999 and lifting of the prestigious Raja Bhalendra Singh Trophy.
Apart from the observation organised by the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports, various social, cultural, sports and students organisations joined in celebrating the day at different venues today.
AMHLL's observance at 7 venues
The Apunba Manipur Huyel Lanlong Lup (AMHLL) also successfully observed the day at seven different associate units and branch offices located in Imphal East, Imphal West, Kakching and Bishnupur.
Thang-Ta demonstrations were the highlight of observation programmes held at Eenat Huyen Lanlong Sintam Sang (EEHULS), Changangei, Imphal West; MEEHULS Huyen Lanlong, Khongman Okram Chuthek; Langmaiching Huyen Lanlong Sintam Sang, Takhel; Nongpok Mahei Apunba Huyen Langlon Sintam Sang, Yairipok Khoirom; Chainarol Temple, Bamon Kampu and All Bishnupur District Huyen Langlon and Cheibi Association, Kumbi Terakha and Oriental Martial Art and Cultural Academy, Singjamei.
The objectives of AMHLL to preserve and promote indigenous games; promotion of fitness and health consciousness and inculcating disciplines to the upcoming generations towards making a healthy society were also highlighted at the occasion, said AMHLL in a statement.
THAU Ground
Celebrating the historic day, Manipur Cricket Association (MNCA) and Sports Journalists played a friendly cricket match at THAU ground, Thangmeiband.
MNCA Secretary's XI team representing MNCA defeated the Sports Journalists' team by 78 runs in the match after forging 210 runs for 6 wickets in the first innings.
MU Football Ground
Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF) and Manipur University Students' Union (MUSU) also jointly organised the 7th observance of the day at Manipur University Football Ground in Canchipur. Football matches between teams of MUSU, student bodies and Mami Thawan (team of film artistes) marked the day.
BRS Turf Ground, Kongba Nongthombam Leikai
Imphal East District United Clubs Organisation (IEDUCO) also observed the day under the aegis of the All Manipur United Clubs Organisation (AMUCO) at BRS Turf Ground, Kongba Nongthombam Leikai.
T Dwijo, president IEDUCO; N Shyamsunder, advisor to AMUCO; L Krishna, organisation secretary AMUCO; Y Inaocha, assistant secretary AMUCO and Kh Orendro, vice president IEDUCO attended the programme as presidium members.
General secretary of IEDUCO, Puyam Ingocha also read out the keynote address of the programme, said IEDUCO in a statement.
