38th National Games Strife-torn State's medal tally touches 31; Ronaldo wins second medal

IMPHAL, Feb 6: Strife-torn Manipur's medal tally at the 38th National Games in Uttarakhand has reached 31 with State players winning three bronze medals in different events today.
After winning a silver earlier, Manipur's key cyclist, Laitonjam  Ronaldo Singh bagged a bronze medal in the men's elite Keirin distance event.
State boxers, Th Chinglemba Singh and Sovi Jajo too won bronze medals in the events today.
In the men's elite Keirin distance event, Laitonjam  Ronaldo Singh couldn't achieve the expected goal at the Rudrapur velodrome.
Andaman & Nicobar Islands' riders, David Bekhame and Esow secured the gold and silver medal respectively.
Despite best efforts, State boxer Chinglemba Singh lost to his rival pugilist Anshul Punia of Chandigarh in the men's 51 Kg category.
Sovi Jajo lost to Sangeeta Khokar in the women's 57 Kg category.
With the three bronze medals, Manipur medal tally has touched 31 with 11 gold, 10 silver and 9 bronze medals.
Notably, on February 3, cyclist Laitonjam  Ronaldo Singh had won a silver medal in the 200 Metre men's Sprint.
Eight State cyclists--Y Rojit Singh, Elangbam Lanchenba Singh, Khwairakpam Rahul Singh, L Ronaldo Singh, Athokpam Bike Singh (Track events), Yurembam Gitu Devi, Sarangthem Bidyarani Devi and Yumnam Thaja Devi (Track events) and Yurembam Gitu, Sarangthem Bidyarani (Road event) are taking part in the Games.
Hockey: In Men's hockey which was played at VK stadium at Haridwar today, Manipur lost to Punjab 0-2.
Women's hockey team also suffered a 0-7 defeat against Jharkhand at the same hockey field.
State Hockey coach, Kshetrimayum Romesh said the men's team will try to work out different strategies in the upcoming matches against Karnataka and Odisha.
Manipur athletes also competed in Lawn Bowls and Taekwondo events on the 10th day of the Games.
Judo, Fencing, Gymnastics, Taekwondo and Mountain Biking events are coming in the following days.
Last National Games
It may be noted that in the last National Games in Goa, cyclist Yanglem Rojit had opened Manipur's account in cycling with a silver medal by finishing second in the 10,000 M individual time trial. He had clocked second best at 1:03.891. He also bagged a gold in the men’s 1000 Metre sprint.
In cycling, State’s five-member women team—Kh Rejiya, I Matouleibi, T Monorama, M Sonali and N Anita had also won a gold in the women’s 4 Km team pursuit competition.
Manipur cycling team brought home 5 medals including 3 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze.
State boxers had bagged a total of 3 medals including 1 silver and 2 bronze.
