IMPHAL, Mar 9 : YWC, Langthabal and TCMDC, Thongju registered comprehensive victories in their opening league matches in the 2nd MNCA U-23 Men's Haobam Biramangol Singh Memorial Trophy 2024-25.
In the Group C opening match staged at Khangabok Cherapur Public Ground, YWC notched up a huge 150-run victory against SCCC, Singjamei Thongam Leikai.
Electing to bat first, YWC rode on Seram Robinson's 91-ball 91 (12 fours and 2 sixes) and Nepram Herojit's 58-ball 30 and 41 extras to pile up 241 runs for all wickets down in 37.1 overs.
They successfully defended their total by bowling out SCCC for 91 runs in 25.5 overs thanks to Soubam Robinson who enjoyed a fifer (5/14 in 6 overs) and two wicket hauls by Maibam Subash (2/17 in 4 overs) and Yumnam Chingkhei Nganba (2/3 in 1.5 overs).
For SCCC, Rex Waikhom (3/47 in 7 overs) and Moirangthem Johnson (3/43 in 6 overs) shared six wickets as Khaidem Lishan (2/33), Khaidem Joyraj (1/35) and Oinam Jimmy (1/23) shared four wickets.
For SCCC, Kh Ulenyai 22, Khaidem Lishan 20 and Syed Hanif 13 and Athokpam Rojesh 10 emerged leading run getters while 6 batters got out with single digit or zero runs.
Soubam Robinson was adjudged player of the match.
Elsewhere at Khudeiband Lampak, TCMDC opened their Group D campaign with a 10-wicket win over RULE, Meitram.
TCMDC bundled out RULE for 133 runs in 37 overs after opting to field first and chased down the target in 19.2 overs without any loss.
Kongbrailatpam Kalyan Sharma picked four wickets (4/13 in 8 overs) while L Vishonath (2/22 in 7 overs) and L Valindra (2/37 in 8 overs) shared four other wickets to subdue RULE to a meagre total despite Jay Singh's 81-ball 61 before Kongbrailatpam Kalyan (88 off 71 balls; 12 fours) and Waikhom Mathoi (38 off 46 balls) produced an unbeaten first wicket partnership of 134 runs to seal the victory.
Kalyan Sharma was eventually adjudged player of the match.
