Moirang, Mar 9 : To encourage younger generations towards boxing, a 15-Day Non Residential Boxing camp 2025 kickstarted today at Khoijuman Bazar community hall.
The camp is organised by Khoijuman Apunba Chaokhat Thourang Lup (KACTL) under the aegis of Bishnupur District Amateur Boxing Association on the theme- “Come and Build the Foundation of Your Own Dreams”.
The inaugural function was graced by Padma Shri Nameirakpam Kunjarani Commandant, Group Centre CRPF Langjing as chief guest; L Dhitta Singh, president Khoijuman Apunba Chaokhat Thourang Lup as functional president; Superintendent of Police (Sports) Laishram Sarita; M. Ramani Chanu, Centre-in-Charge of SAI STC, Imphal; L Sunil Singh, secretary, Bishnupur District Amateur Boxing Association as guests of honour.
Speaking at the occasion, former weightlifter Nameirakpam Kunjarani said that such a camp will surely attract and encourage young players to take up sports of their likes.
She also expressed concern over the State's deteriorating dominance in the field of sports over the years and noted the importance of reigniting the passion and spirit among the growing generation to retain the former glory of being a sports' powerhouse in the country. Maintaining that representing the State and Nation is a huge responsibility, she also encouraged the budding players to focus in their respective discipline with grit and determination.
SP (Sports), Laishram Sarita, meanwhile took note of the dwindling bond between athletes and local clubs that once acted proactively to groom and support athletes besides the growing phone addiction among children.
She also exuded confidence that such a camp will surely help young players develop interest in boxing. She also spoke on the discipline, life skill, team spirit and career aspects involved in games and sports and called upon guardians to encourage their children towards it apart from ensuring them formal education.
The inaugural day also witnessed exhibition boxing matches.
