Over 300 vehicles stranded on NH-2

SENAPATI, Mar 10 :  More than 300 vehicles including passenger buses/wingers and oil tankers are reportedly stranded in Senapati district due to the ongoing total shutdown imposed by the Kuki-Zo Council.
Altogether, there are 294 loaded trucks, 13 loaded oil tankers, 6 buses, 10 wingers and 4 DIs stranded between Hengbung and T/Khullen till 5 pm on Monday, according Senapati Police.
Barring a few, most of the vehicles have been stranded since March 8 when violence erupted.
Meanwhile, district truck associations came to the aid of the stranded drivers and handymen by distributing water.
Notably, the Senapati District Truck Owners Association, Senapati District Truck Drivers Union, Manipur Drivers Association together with Senapati Police Station, assisted by T/Khullen police outpost carried out the distribution of water to the stranded truck drivers and handymen till T/Khullen.
Expressing gratitude to the truck associations and the district police for the timely assistance, the stranded drivers appealed to the State Government and the concerned authority to allow them to ferry their trucks at the earliest as some of them are loaded with essential commodities like onion, pulses, rice, potatoes, etc which will turn bad if they are further delayed. Highlighting their plight, the driver said that with so many vehicles stranded, they are facing difficulties in accessing bathroom facilities. Additionally, some of them also got sick while they were stranded, he said.
