2nd H Biramangol Memorial Trophy 2024-25 Pheiroijam Jotin scores 91-ball 187 as PTRC crush CYCLONE by 6 wickets

IMPHAL, Mar 12 : PTRC, Patsoi Part IV rode on Pheiroijam Jotin's exemplary batting performance to beat CYCLONE, Thangmeiband by 6 wickets in a Group C league match of the ongoing 2nd MNCA U-23 Men's H Biramangol Memorial Trophy 2024-25 at Khangabok Cherapur Public Ground.
Pheiroijam Jotin produced a masterful knock of 187 off 91 (25 fours and 10 sixes) in a 287-run target chase after CYCLONE racked up a commanding total of 286 runs for 8 wickets in the allotted 40 overs.
Put in to bat first, N Sidarth and Moirangthem Thomson pulled off a key partnership of 151 runs to take CYCLONE team past 200-mark after Laitonjam James, Bush Sagolshem and Pheiroijam Tamarland reduced the team to 55/3 in 10.4 overs.
N Sidarth who clobbered 13 fours and 6 sixes was however bowled out by Venson Yumnam on 103 off 55 for the fourth wicket. Thomsan who knocked 78 (11 fours and 1 six) and shared a 36 runs partnership with Laithangbam Binson  (30 off 28 balls) fell to Laitonjam James on 78 in the 95th delivery he faced for the fifth wicket.
Ronaldo 14 off 14 and Arubam Tyson 11 off 4 were unbeaten as CYCLONE culminated the innings at 286/8.
Laitonjam James returned with the best figures of 3/56 in 8 overs as Tamarland returned with 2/40 in 8 overs and three others including Ngashepam Shivason, S Bush and Venson finished with a wicket apiece.
In the chase, PTRC started slowly and slipped to 32/2 in 8.2 overs with Tyson removing both the openers. Pheiroijam Bedabiyas and Jotin however joined the fray and forged a huge 246-run partnership off 26.3 overs for the third wicket to change the complexion of the chase.
Jotin was however dismissed by Ninthoujam Thoiba in the 35th over when the scoreboard read 278 but Bedabiyas held on with an unbeaten 40 to take PTRC to winning 288/4 in 35.2 overs with Laitonjam Jackson (0 not out).
Arubam Tyson (2/14 in 3 overs) and Ningthoujam Thoiba (2/65 in 7 overs) shared the four wickets for CYCLONE in this innings.
Jotin deservedly walked away with the man of the match accolade.
Elsewhere at Khudeiband Lampak, Taothong, PCC, Mayaikoibi  kicked off their Group D campaign on a winning note by overcoming AKSDO by 3 runs in a last over thriller.
Toss winners PCC rode on a half century knock from Kangujam Boocker 62 off 38 (4 fours and 5 sixes), significant 57-ball 37 from Khangembam Bobby, 30-ball 21 from Mairembam Lucky and 38 extras to post a moderate total of 236 runs for all wickets down in 40 overs.
For AKSDO, L Akash (2/44), L Rohit (2/35) and L Winchelly (2/29) were among the wickets.
Chasing 237 for the win, AKSDO had a promising start  as Akash Laishram led the batting charge before he was trapped lbw by Loitongbam Anjan on 86 off 63 balls for the fifth wicket when the scoreboard read 151.
Borish 16 off 40, Ninthoujam Sanayai 25 off 18 and Laishram Winchelly 29 tried their best to take AKSDO close to the target.
Lucky Thokchom who opened his account by removing Bishorjit for the first wicket in the 6th over, however got rid of Winchelly Laishram and Rohit Laishram 4 in the first and the fifth delivery of the 40th over to reduce AKSDO to 233 for 9, just 4 runs shy from the victory.
Coming in at number 11, Laishram Nungshiba did his best to make the most of the final delivery but he got run out and eventually, PCC sealed the 3-run victory.
Lucky Thokchom returned with the best figures of 3/47 in his spell of 8 overs as K Boocker (2/34), Takhelmayum Vikash (2/37), L Anjan (1/35) and M Lucky (1/34) shared 6 wickets.
Boocker who struck a half century and picked two wickets was eventually adjudged player of the match.
