Plastic bottle banks

IMPHAL, Mar 12 : Professor N Lokendra Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Manipur University has inaugurated and handed over the plastic bottle banks installed at three of the University's adopted villages at Langthabal Chingthak, Langthabal Chingkha and Langthabal Khoupum today.
Two plastic bottle banks were installed in each of the villages for the Technology Development Project under SEG Sanitation & Solid Waste Management on “Making Plastic Bottle Free Village through Recycling under UBA 2.0” through National Coordinating Institute, IIT Delhi, said a press release issued by Professor Ch Ibohal Singh, Nodal Officer, Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) Cell, MU.
The formal function was held at Langthabal Khoupum Community Hall graced by Professor N Lokendra Singh; Professor P Albino Kumar, Regional Coordinator, Manipur State UBA, NIT Manipur; Loitongbam Herojit Singh, Chairperson, Hiyangthang GP; Dr Lamalu Thaimei, HOD/ACEE, MU; Kamei Athoimei, Khunbu, Langthabal Khoupum; Aheibam Bale, Co-Partner of Debchan Plastic Industry and Professor Ch Ibohal Singh as the chief guest, special guest, guests of honour and president respectively.
Speaking as the chief guest, Professor N Lokendra Singh narrated his experience witnessing the recycling process of waste plastic items at Gati Shakti University, Gujarat.
Stating that MU, as a centrally funded university, is fulfilling its social responsibility for the development of the neighbouring areas, he appealed to the public to use plastic items wisely and asked the youth to get involved in the recycling process of such items.
Meanwhile, Professor Ch Ibohal informed that under the project used plastic bottles will be deposited in the banks to make the villages free from plastic waste. In turn, the bottles will be recycled for future use in the proper way, which will generate revenue.
Professor Albino Kumar lauded the activities taken up by UBA Cell, MU in bringing transformational changes in the villages.
The function was attended by different stakeholders of the three villages and students and faculty members of Manipur University.
