MSCW observes International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day 2025 on the theme “Acce-lerate Action” was observed in the Auditorium Hall of the Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR), Nityaipat Chuthek, Imphal today.
Organised by the Mani-pur State Commission for Women (MSCW), the observance was attended by Ngangom Uttam Singh, Director MAHUD and IPR, as the chief guest.
In his speech, Ng Uttam Singh stressed the importance of empowering wom- en to bring about equality and development.
Empowering women empowers society, he said.
He appreciated the entire team of the Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW) for their dedication and hard-work in safeguarding and promoting the interests of women, despite facing drawbacks in the budget and manpower.
The Director also highlighted the significance of One Stop Centres (OSCs) in providing support to women.
Women facing physical, sexual, emotional, psychological and economic abuse may seek support through the One Stop Centres by simply visiting it or dialing 181, a toll free number of women in distress.
The Director further sta-ted that the Northeastern States including Sikkim are now called Ashta Lakshmi--the eight incarnations of Goddess of Wealth, Lakshmi.
"It is considered lucky to be born as a woman in Manipur.
Here, women are regarded highly and honoured, compared to other mainland States of India," he said. He appealed to women of the State to be torch-bearers of empowerment, and inspire women of other States.
MSCW Chairperson Thumlip Tiningpham Monsang, Member Secretary W Phajatombi Devi, Members- Lourembam Dayabati Devi, T Chuonsin Koireng and SK Sophia Moyon attended the event. Several women achievers in different fields including Rev Apila Thangal, Sorokhaibam Bidyarani Devi, Anwari Noorjahan, Seram Nirupama Devi and Sr Maria Dilbung were feted at the event.
