12th Manipur Veteran T-20 Cricket REYS upstage NAPSA by 19 runs in title clash

IMPHAL, Mar 8 : REYS, Nagamapal claimed the title of the 12th Manipur Veteran T-20 Cricket Tournament organised by Manipur Veteran Cricket Association with a 19-run final victory against NAPSA, Kha Imphal at Langthabal Public Ground.
REYS opted to bat first after winning the toss and posted a total of 157 runs for 8 wickets and restricted NAPSA to 138/9 in response to earn the 19-run victory.
S Jayanta produced a remarkable knock of 55 off 38 balls (6 fours and 2 sixes) for REYS as Ngairangbam Kenny 21 off 18, Dhawan 24 off 22 gathered 45 runs to set up the competitive total. Arambam Chingkheinganba was also unbeaten on 14 at the close of the innings that saw Puthiba (2/32), Takhelchangbam Gopal Sharma (2/25), Yumnam Simon (2/24) and T Bhogendra all claiming two wickets apiece for NAPSA.
In reply, T Bhogendra 45 off 36 (6 fours), Simon 46 not out off 40 and Premananda Laishram 21 off 9 led the batting charge but their efforts fell short and slumped to 138/9 after 20 overs.
REYS's Dhawan (3/23 in 4 overs) played a pivotal role in disrupting the chase with the assistance of Thounaojam Momo (2/23 in 4 overs) and Ng Kenny (2/35 in 4 overs) who shared another four wickets between them.
Dhawan, who added 24 and picked three crucial wickets, was adjudged man of the match.
Winners REYS were feted with a cash prize of Rs 20,000 along with the title trophy while runners up NAPSA settled for the cash prize of Rs 15,000 and a trophy.
Semi-finallist teams were also feted with a cash prize of Rs 2,000 each during the valedictory function. Man of the series (Rs 2,000)- I Ibobi of NAPSA; man of the final match (Rs 1,000)- Dhawan of REYS; highest scorer (Rs 1,000)- U Robinson of CYCLONE (249 runs in 5 innings); highest wicket taker (Rs 1,000)- N Sanjit of TCMDC (11 wickets in 6 innings) were also feted with cash prizes and trophies.
