IMPHAL, Apr 11 : MPSC-B and Black Watch PC, Babupara progressed into the semi-finals of the 31st Governor's Cup Invitation Men's State Polo Tournament with easy wins today.
In the second match of the 8-team knock-out tournament staged this afternoon, MPSC-B outlasted AR Polo Team by 9-1 goals to set up a semi-final date with Chingkheihunba Polo Club.
T Pradeep led the scoring for MPSC-B adding a goal apiece across the first three chukkers as S Abungcha and O Suresh added two goals apiece.
S Bimol and H Abung Khuman also scored a goal each for MPSC-B as M Kuber scored the only goal for AR Polo Team in the opening chukker.
Later in the day, Black Watch PC knocked out Tentha PC by 6-1 goals thanks to a treble from Th Nongpoknganba.
Th Nongpoknganba and P Ojit scored respectively in the first and second chukkers to hand Black Watch PC a 2-0 lead at halfway mark before S Bon Bon scored the team's third goal in the third chukker to make it 3-1 moments after L Rohit scored the consolation goal for Tentha PC.
The final chukker saw A Alex scoring a goal to make it 4-1 before Th Nongpoknganba scored two more goals to complete his treble and the 6-1 thrashing of Tentha PC.
Black Watch PC will play the winners between MPSC-A and X-Polo Club (match scheduled tomorrow- April 12), in the semi-final.
The 20th edition of the Governor's Cup Women's Polo Tournament is also set to kick off tomorrow with four teams participating in it.
IRC will play Ibudhou in the opening match before MPSC take on AR Polo team in the second match on April 15.
The final matches of both the men's and women's tourneys are slated for April 18.
