IMPHAL, Apr 15: The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has filed a case at the Supreme Court against Waqf Amendment Act 2025.
With MPCC working president Md Fajur Rahim and ex-MLA Md Amin Shah as petitioners, and MPCC legal department vice-chairman Advocate Md Rabi Khan as local counsel, MPCC filed a case against the controversial Act at the Supreme Court today.
Advocate Rabi Khan said that the petition may be heard on April 16.
Pointing out that the Waqf Amendment Act 2025 is both anti-secular and unconstitutional, people in different States have been demanding repeal of the same Act, Rabi Khan said.
He exuded confidence that the apex Court would certainly repeal the controversial Act and added that the Congress party would carry on different modes of agitation until the unconstitutional Act is repealed.
Ex-MLA Amin Shah, one of the petitioners, said that the Waqf Amendment Act 2025 challenges Article 26 of the Constitution which guarantees freedom to manage religious affairs.
The BJP Government, by forcibly passing the Waqf Amendment Act 2025, has been violating the rights of all the Muslims in India, Amin Shah said.
He demanded immediate repeal of the same Act.
On the other hand, a joint meeting of the Meitei Pangal CSOs was held on April 9, 2025 at the quarters of Lilong AC MLA Abdul Nasir at Babupara.
A committee called Coordination Committee for Protection of Waqf Properties, Manipur (CCPWPM) comprising as many as 30 CSOs was formed at the meeting.
Subsequently, a petition was filed against the Waqf Amendment Act 2025 at the Supreme Court by a team of Advocate Pinky Bahera, Advocate Juno and Advocate Ajmal.
