Timber seized

TENGNOUPAL, Apr 18: Assam Rifles troops intercepted 23 trucks from Kampang Khullen area in Tengnoupal district for illegally transporting timber without valid transit permits during an operation on April 16.
The drivers were detained after failing to produce valid documentation and the trucks along with timber worth Rs 14.28 lakh were seized, said a statement issued by IGAR (S).
The Forest Department was informed and a field verification was conducted on the same day.
Following a written correspondence from the District Forest Office, the trucks were released on April 17.
The Forest Department officials fixed the value of the seized timber at approximately Rs 14.28 lakh.
Notably, Assam Rifles launched the operation to curb illegal smuggling of forest produce.
