IMPHAL, Apr 24 : The Ethno Heritage Council (HERICOUN)  has demanded clarification from all the people involved in organising "Thabal Chongba" at various places on the occasion of Khongjom Day.
Addressing a press conference today at Government Dance College, HERICOUN secretary general Aheiban Anand said that Khongjom Day is observed every year on April 23 to pay homage to the courageous Manipuri ancestors who valiantly fought against the mighty British in the Anglo-Manipuri War 1891,
"It was unfortunate that Thabal Chonga was organised on this day as if it is a festive event rather than offering solemn tribute to the martyrs", he added.
He continued that Khongjom Day marks a dark-chapter in the history of Manipur and there is no valid reason to organise any recreational programmes and activities on the day of the observance.
Furthermore, Aheibam Anand said that all the people including "band parties/ light/ sound" who were involved in organising the Thabal Chongba should  clarify to the public at the earliest.
