SENAPATI, Apr 7 : The United Naga Council (UNC), All Naga Students' Association, Manipur (ANSAM) and Naga Women Union (NWU) have condemned the Kuki group's attack on Naga villagers in Konsakhul, near Leimakhong Army Cantonment, on April 5, 2025.
The incident resulted in severe injuries and property damage to the Liangmai Naga community.
In a joint statement, the three Naga organisations said that they are devastated by the "barbaric act" of the Kukis, committing unwarranted attack on the Naga villagers resulting in severe injuries and destruction of properties belonging to Liangmai Naga of Konsakhul village.
It was reported that hundreds of assailants from Leilon Kukis unleashed a premeditated attack upon the peaceful Liangmai Naga villagers, taking the law into their hands and leaving 13 persons severely wounded, including Aimson Abonmai, chief of Konsakhul, Adam Dirinamai, village chairman and Wilingson Abonmai, Pastor of Konsaram Baptist Church, it said.
Saying that Aimson Abonmai and Adam are undergoing treatment at RIMS, Imphal, the Naga organisations said that attacking and assaulting the chief/headman and village authority is one of the highest forms of crime and aggression as per the Naga customary law.
The three bodies of the Nagas, in no uncertain terms, condemned "such heinous crime perpetrating upon the Nagas." The Naga organisations expressed shock and outrage over the violent attack carried out by a large group during a public curfew, 'despite the presence of State and Central security forces.'
"It raises a serious question over the Government authorities and the dubious bonhomie of Central security forces and the Kukis," it added.
The Naga organisations further said they have taken strong exception to "hasty and outrageous statement of the so called World Kuki Zo Intellectual Council" with regard to the incident, justifying the act of crime committed by their brethren towards the Nagas based on "unfounded claims and distorted document"  instead of trying to contain the situation and solve the matter amicably.
It seems like the crime was carried out clinically and corroborated by the Kuki-Zo at large to meet their selfish ends, they charged.
UNC, ANSAM and NWU said that the Naga people also condemn the "treacherous and savagery action carried out by the Kuki volunteers from Valpabung village", vandalizing and arsoning at Kazanga, a village belonging to Maram Naga tribe on April 3, 2025.
"Such an outrageous act is nothing less than land arrogation in the guise of dispute and is highly unacceptable. Moreover, the Naga people would not remain as a mute spectator unless sanity and good sense prevail", it said.
