IMPHAL, Jul 13
Pothole-ridden roads have become a major concern for commuters across Manipur, including several key routes in Imphal.
Major roads leading to important Government establishments such as the Raj Bhavan, Manipur Secretariat, and other parts of the city are plagued by large potholes, posing serious risks to public safety. Stretches of the Asian Highway, particularly in areas like Singjamei and Yaiskul, as well as parts of National Highway 37, including Sagolband and Wahengbam Leikai, are among the worst affected.
The deteriorating road conditions have not only caused traffic congestion but have also contributed to a rise in road accidents. In the absence of any timely intervention from the authorities, the Yaiskul Volunteers Organisation has taken matters into its own hands.
As a responsible local club, the organisation has begun repairing potholes in the Yaiskul area, part of the Asian Highway, using its own resources.
While the repairs are not a permanent fix, the volunteers hope their efforts will provide temporary relief to commuters and prevent further accidents.
Local residents have actively participated in the initiative, coming together to fill the potholes and improve road safety in their neighbourhood. Their actions highlight both the urgency of the situation and the community’s willingness to step up in the face of official inaction.  North East Live
