IMPHAL, Jul 14: Angered at the University and Government authorities for ignoring their demands, the DM University Students' Union has locked the Administrative Block of the varsity.
The stir, the student union said, will continue until it receives a positive response from the authorities.
DMUSU president Chalamba Kh said the student union has been urging the University and Government authorities to repair the varsity road, install proper gate and deploy security for safety of the students as well as teachers.
When the road inside the campus was already in a sorry state, the diversion of all vehicles inside the campus due to construction of a culvert at Khoyathong has further deteriorated the condition.
The construction of the culvert has been on for months but it has not been completed yet, he said.
With all kinds of vehicles including private and heavy ones plying the road, the condition has deteriorated to the extent it has come to pose a serious health risk, he added.
Angered by the inaction of the authorities concerned, the students, on May 30 and July 30, had blocked the southern gate using earth, Chalamba said.
The Vice Chancellor of the University has also written to relevant authorities of the Government to address the issues and repair the road. However no steps have been taken up to address the grievances, he said.
While the VC made an appeal to the students today to call off the stir, the students asserted that the Administrative Block will be kept locked until they receive a positive response from the Government authorities.
