Drop FIR : IDPs

IMPHAL, Jul 14 : Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) have called for the withdrawal of the FIR lodged against Ningthoujam Popilal, former president of the Manipur Pradesh Youth Congress Committee (MPYCC).
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club today, IDP Angom Memchoubi said that Popilal had criticized the Government's resettlement initiative for IDPs during a press meet held at Kangchup on July 11.
She said that the IDPs from Kangchup Kharang had requested Popilal to speak on their behalf and highlight their grievances as none of them could present them effectively. Being born and brought up at Kangchup Chingkhong, he is also from the same place, she added.
Clarifying that the IDPs do not view him as a politician, she said that there was nothing wrong in what he said.
Questioning the motive behind the FIR, she expressed grief that the police are now searching for Ningthoujam Popilal to put him behind bars.
Insinuating that the IDPs can guess who is behind the FIR filed against Popilal, Angom Memchoubi appealed for its withdrawal.
She reiterated that the IDPs do not see him as a politician. He spoke on their behalf after they made the request, seeing him as a son and brother from the same locality.
Calling for prompt withdrawal of the FIR, she cautioned that the IDPs might launch intense agitations otherwise.
As an IDP, Angom Memchoubi is currently staying with her relatives.
