IMPHAL, Jul 15 : By 2026, over 10 lakh youths in India will be proficient in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital skills and be gainfully employed in related fields, said Dr Nambram Amulkumar, Head of Department of Vocational Studies and Skill Development (DVSSD), Manipur University.
He made the remark during the celebration of World Youth Skills Day 2025 held at the Training Hall of DVSSD, New Science Block, Manipur University today under the theme "Youth empowerment through AI and digital skills".
Addressing the gathering, the Head of DVSSD said that according to a survey conducted by the World Economic Forum, 86% of employers expect AI and information processing technologies to transform their business by 2030.
Without AI skills, employees engaged in manual work might be deemed unemployable in the future.
According to UNESCO, 9 out of 10 youths are not well-equipped when it comes to AI skills. Only 10% of  rural areas in the entire world have digital access and exposure to AI. Under such circumstances, the rate of unemployment in the next 5 years will be very high, he added.

Saying that more than 10 lakh Indian youths will be employed in AI and other related sectors requiring digital skills by 2026, he added that the unemployment rate in India can fall considerably if more young people are upskilled in this field.
