86 weapons seized with 974 rounds of ammo from valley

IMPHAL, Jul 15 : Security forces recovered as many as 86 illegal weapons and 974 pieces of ammunition from across Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal, Kakching and Bishnupur today.
The seized weapons include five AK series rifles, three INSAS rifles, 16 SLRs, five 303 rifles, 19 pistols, two Carbines, nine rifles, 16 SBBL/bore action guns, two anti-riot guns, one JVPC, one DBBL gun, six bolt action guns and one two-inch mortar.
The ammunition seized during simultaneous operations, on the other hand, were nine hand grenades, four IEDs, 526 rounds of 7.62 live ammunition, 226 rounds of 5.56 live ammunition, 190 rounds of 303 live ammunition, seven 9 mm ammunition, four .32mm ammunition, six HE mortal shells, etc, as per a statement issued by the office of the Director General of Police
41 assorted magazines and six wireless handsets were also seized in today's operation.
This seizure of a massive haul of weapons comes days after security forces seized over 203 weapons from Tengnoupal, Kangpok-pi, Chandel, and Chura- chandpur districts on July 4.
Briefing the media at the Police Headquarters, K Kabib, IGP Zone II, stated that the seizure of various weapons and ammunition during today's simultaneous operations, conducted in the five valley districts is another significant step towards restoring peace and security in the State.
The search operation was carried out based on specific intelligence inputs about the cache of arms, ammunition, and war-like materials concealed in various locations, he said.
The senior police officer also stated that the continued intelligence-led operations represent a major accomplishment for Manipur Police and other security forces in their ongoing mission to restore peace, uphold public order, and safeguard the lives and property of citizens.
The Manipur Police have reaffirmed their commitment to fostering a peaceful and secure Manipur, he said, urging the public to cooperate with the police and security forces by promptly reporting any suspicious activity or information related to illegal arms to the nearest police station.
K Kabib continued that senior police officers have been working in close coordination with all security stakeholders to ensure that such operations continue in a sustained and focused manner.
Notably, Arambai Tenggol had in the last week of February 2025 surrendered 246 weapons and ammunition, mortar guns, explosive materials, bulletproof vests, military boots, combat uniforms and helmets among others.
