IMPHAL, Jul 15 : The Foothill Naga Co-ordination Committee (FNCC) has call-ed an indefinite road block- ade and general strike in the foothill region of Naga-inhabited areas, effective from the midnight of July 18.
This action is in protest against the presence of "illegal immigrants and Kuki refugees on Naga ancestral land," said FNCC, in a statement signed by its secretary B Robin Kabui.
Th FNCC stated that their course of action has become unavoidable due to the renaming of roads in Naga ancestral territories, alleged territorial encroachment by Kuki refugees, and to demand the dismantling of camps of Kuki militant groups under the Suspension of Operation (SoO) pact.
The Naga group contended that Kuki refugees have unilaterally and mischievously renamed their inter-village road as German Road or Tiger Road.
Saying that these fabricated names have no legiti- macy in their traditions, histories and official land records, the FNCC asserted that any attempt to impose such fictitious infrastructure naming in Naga territories will be viewed as an act of provocation and territorial aggression.
The committee also said that there has been a continuous and systematic en- croachment upon Naga lands which they view as a direct threat to their territorial integrity and heritage.
The FNCC, meanwhile, urged the relevant authorities to dismantle all camps belonging to SoO groups located in close proximity to Naga inhabited areas.
These camps not only endanger peace but also serve as a persistent source of fear and insecurity, it said, appealing to all Naga citizens to support their protest.
