National conference kicks off at MU

IMPHAL, Jul 16: A three-day National conference on "Role of Techno-Science and Social Science in Transforming Life and Society Towards Achieving Sustainable Development Goals" kicked off at the auditorium of Manipur University, Canchipur today.
The conference was organised by Manipur University in association with Manipur Science and Technology Council (MASTEC) and Pan India Manipuri Meitei Scientists and Academicians' Association (PIMMSAA).
Scientists, academicians and research scholars from different parts of the country attended the conference with MU Vice Chancellor Professor N Lokendra as the chief guest.
Delivering the keynote address, Professor N Damayanti, Dean, School of Agricultural Science, MU applauded PIMMSAA for taking steps in the academic sphere to help folks displaced and affected by the conflict.
The conference was organised with a focus on students and research scholars in a State like Manipur with limited connectivity to the mainland, lagging in industrial sector and with few academic institutions for higher studies.
She expressed confidence that the National conference will guide and help them get job placements.
PIMMSAA president Ranjankumar Singh Khaidem said that the organisation was formed on July 16, 2023 during the height of the Manipur crisis.
The philanthropic organisation has helped many students from displaced families studying outside the State. It has also provided aid to women and students staying in relief camps, he said.
As a part of the event, a souvenir was released and prizes were distributed to meritorious Class X and XII students.
Other notable dignitaries present at the function included Professor W Chandbabu, Vice Chancellor, Dhanamanjuri University; Kengoo Zuringla, Member Secretary, MASTEC and Dr Thangjam Dhabali, Chairman and Managing Director of Babina Group of Companies.
