Governor Bhalla chairs meetings

IMPHAL, Jul 16: Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla chaired two separate meetings to assess the condition of prison infrastructure and administration and the progress of Manipur Projects Coordination Portal (MPCP) at the conference hall of Raj Bhavan today. 
The review meeting on prison infrastructure and administration across the State was attended by the Chief Secretary, Director General of Police, Director General of Prisons, Inspector General of Prisons and other senior officials, said a press release issued by the Governor's Secretariat.
During the meeting, the IG of Prisons highlighted the current state of jails in Manipur, the deteriorating infrastructure of the two main functional jails in the State, challenges faced by six temporary jails located across various districts and the issue of pending staff recruitments.
In response, the Governor suggested a number of measures to address the infrastructural and administrative shortcomings.
He assured timely intervention and collaborative efforts among departments concerned to ensure better conditions, security and efficiency within the prison system.
He also told the officials that necessary steps should be taken to resolve the existing challenges and strengthen the prison infrastructure.
Separately, Governor Bhalla chaired a meeting with senior officials of the Planning Department to assess the progress and functioning of MPCP – a digital initiative aimed at enhancing inter-departmental coordination for infrastructure and development projects across the State.
The officials presented a detailed overview of the portal’s objectives and functionalities. They informed the Governor that major executing departments such as the PWD, PHED, MSPDCL, MSPCL, MAHUD, Police, District Administration, and the IT Department will be using the portal to coordinate projects efficiently.
The key focus of the platform is to ensure proper planning and avoid delays.
Governor Bhalla commended the initiative as a step toward more transparent, accountable, and efficient governance.
He advised them to make continued efforts to improve the system and ensure full departmental participation for timely and effective project execution across the State.
