Without discounting the greatness embedded within the decision of Taylor or Clarke, it also remains the fact that their respect got expressed towards the memory of a legendary fellow Aussie only! Also surpassing Bradman by few more runs wouldn't have turned them into highest individual scorer of Test history! But had Mulder decided to carry on for few more overs, he had every possibility to surpass Lara and attain the peak of 401 or more! Yet he sacrificed his individual desire not out of respect of any fellow South African; but for the Prince of Trinidad who had represented West Indies, thereby proving that the spirit of glorious game of cricket must transcend all barriers of country and continent!
Wiaan Mulder has simply made our day in these vitiated times! What an education imparted by him in terms of morality humility and awarding respect!
In this context, it may be added that whenever he used to nick behind the wicket, Adam Gilchrist never waited for the verdict of the umpire. (To be contd)
