Jiri bags ‘most promising town’ award

IMPHAL, Jul 17 : Jiribam Municipal Council has received the "Most Promising Town" title at the Swachh Survekshan Awards 2024-25 held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi in the presence of President Droupadi Murmu and Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar.
Jiribam ranked number one among 21 small towns (population below 20,000) in the North Eastern Region. It emerged as a shining example of community-driven sanitation efforts out of 27 Urban Local Bodies in Manipur, as per a press release issued by Sharda Manoharmayum, Joint Director, MAHUD.
Nationally, Jiribam stands at 174th position out of 2,035 towns in the "Most Promising Town" category. The Council has also been certified as 'Garbage Free City' (GFC) 3 Star and ODF++ (Open Defecation Free) by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
The Manipur delegation to the award ceremony was led by RK Dinesh Singh, Principal Secretary (MAHUD) accompanied by Ngangom Uttam Singh, Director (MAHUD); S Shanti Devi, Chairperson of Jiribam Municipal Council, and Moirangthem Surjit, Executive Officer of Jiribam Municipal Council, who collectively received the award on behalf of the State.
Following the award ceremony, the Manipur team participated in a high-level brainstorming session with Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, along with other State representatives, to review and discuss the progress of Centrally Sponsored Schemes (CSS) under the Ministry.
The Directorate of MAHUD has extended heartfelt congratulations to the people of Jiribam and conveyed that it remains committed to replicating such successes across other Urban Local Bodies in Manipur.
