IMPHAL, Jul 17 : Monalisa Maibam, Judge of Special Court ND&PS Manipur convicted 40 years old Lunkhomang Haokip under Section 21(c) of ND&PS Act.
According to the case details, Lunkhomang Haokip, son of Janglet Haokip of Langkhong village, was arrested on October 15, 2022, by a team of Narcotic and Affairs of Border Police Station while transporting 2.040 kg of brown sugar in a two-wheeler's tool box at Pukhao Terapur near Dolaithabi Dam, Imphal East.
The special trial against the convict began in April 2023, and the judgment was reserved after the final argument hearing on June 4, 2025.
The Court, after hearing submissions from Special PP M Raichand and the defence counsel, observed that the prosecution had proved the charges against the convict beyond reasonable doubt.
The Court convicted Lunkhomang Haokip under Section 21(c) of the ND&PS Act and fixed July 23 for sentence hearing to determine the quantum of punishment.
The Court also directed the OC of NAB Police Station to take necessary steps for disposing of the seized contraband and confiscating the vehicle used in the crime.
