IMPHAL, Jul 18 : National Cadet Corps (NCC) celebrated its raising day accompanied by the inauguration of its Manipur University unit by Vice Chancellor Professor N Lokendra today.
The brand new unit named H1 Company was set up near the helipad in MU campus under NCC 14 Manipur Bn.
On the occasion, Professor N Lokendra hoisted the NCC flag and planted tree saplings.
Later, the raising day celebration was held at MU Court Hall in the presence of Brigadier VK Narasinha, Group Commander, NCC Group Headquarters Imphal; Professor Ch Ibohal, Dean, Students' Welfare, MU and the MU VC as presidium members.
NCC officers, cadets and faculty members of the university attended the event.
Addressing the gathering, Professor N Lokendra remarked that a university does not gain popularity because of its VC, registrar or officers.
The contributions of its faculty, students' performance and the position of its students in the global workforce/market will serve as an indication of its prominent status.
He shared that the idea of establishing an NCC unit at the university was first born three years ago out of a need to imbibe the students with leadership qualities, ethics and manners and upskilling initiatives to improve their chances in the competitive world.
The newly established NCC unit will help the university students in carving out a path to their future, he added.
Speaking on the occasion, Brigadier VK Narasinha commended NCC as a platform which nurtures discipline and leadership.
It inspires the youth to become model citizens, contributes significantly to national integration and spreads the message of hard work.
According to the Group Commander, the MU VC broached the subject of setting up an NCC unit two months ago when the former paid him a courtesy call.
After getting approval from the relevant authority, the NCC unit was finally inaugurated today, he shared.
